Peter Sharpe honoured with 2010 BOMA Canada Chairman’s Award
Peter Sharpe, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Cadillac Fairview Corporation was named the recipient of the prestigious BOMA Canada Chairman’s Award in front of some 450 industry leaders at their National Awards Gala on September 15, in Toronto.
The award recognizes Mr. Sharpe’s outstanding contributions to BOMA (The Building Owners and Managers Association) and the Canadian real estate industry. Mr. Sharpe was honoured for his 40 years of service as well as his generous and timely contributions of energy and expertise towards key issues affecting not just the membership, but a broad range of industry stakeholders.
“Peter Sharpe has been an extremely committed leader at all levels of the organization,” says Michael Miceli, Chairman of BOMA Canada. “He continually makes important contributions as a strategic thinker and as a respected expert who works tirelessly to foster improvements in our industry.”Miceli adds, “Peter’s ability to engage other industry leaders in developing new policies and practices that benefit everyone, from tenants to building owners, has been a hallmark of the organization.”
Sharpe shared his thoughts on how beneficial BOMA’s educational programs, research and industry standards have been to his progression in real estate and to Cadillac Fairview through their involvement in the BOMA BESt green certification program. “Cadillac Fairview was among the early adopters and has been a proud supporter of the BOMA BESt (Building Environmental Standards) sustainability program,” said Mr. Sharpe. “All of our company’s retail and office properties across the country have been successfully certified, and I know BOMA BESt has been a catalyst for change, prompting many in our industry to advance how they operate their buildings.”
This significant achievement has supported Cadillac Fairview’s national GREEN AT WORKTM program, which is implemented at all properties and sets operational benchmarks to reduce energy consumption and waste, improve environmental protection, encourage sustainable procurement and ongoing communication with key stakeholders. Sharpe adds that, “Adopting substantive sustainability programs has proven to be a prudent business strategy for reducing operating and maintenance costs, improving property values and helping to attract the highest quality tenants.”
